We're saying goodbye to Annerley

We have some difficult news to share. Our Annerley store will be closing permanently as of January 26th. While this was never our intention, we’ve had to make this decision due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control.

We are gutted this has to happen, and that we have to tell you now, so close to our final day. We are not going to lie, we have known about this outcome for a while now, but we could not publicly talk about it until now.

Why We’re Closing

On the last day of the year, we received news that left us with no choice but to leave at the end of our lease. Unfortunately, we cannot provide more details at this time, but please know this outcome was not part of our plan.

Even though the Annerley store hasn’t been the ideal space for our growing needs, it has been our home for the past three years (and even longer with the previous owner). It holds a special place in our hearts as the foundation that allowed the Lucky Cat Cafe to grow into what it is today.

Flaws and all, it will be deeply missed as the space that helped us create so many cherished memories with our community.

What is going to happen to the Cats:

The plan for now is to transition all cats to Ipswich as of January 27th. We will be slowly moving our cats over from Annerley to Ipswich. We will most likely try to keep our levels at both store to about 8 so we can't move them all over by our closing date.

This process will help the adult cats adjust to the Ipswich store. Our mission remains to get all our fosters adopted, and we are committed to finding homes for our adult cats—no matter how long it takes.

With all that said, if you or someone you know is looking to adopt, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Kitten Kapers Rescue.

How You Can Help

If you’d like to support us during this transition, here’s how:

Visit the Annerley store before it closes:
Our last day is January 26th, and we’d love for you to come say goodbye to this special space.

Support us at the Ipswich store:
Until we find a new location in Brisbane, we’ll be expanding our events and offerings at Ipswich. We’d love to see you there!

Help us find a new space:
If you or someone you know has a commercial property near Brisbane or on the Northside (e.g., a warehouse and/or kitchen space), please reach out. We’re eager to start planning our return to Brisbane.

Moving Forward

The Ipswich store will remain open and will be the heart of our operations for the time being. We are excited about the opportunities to grow and evolve in Ipswich while we search for a new Brisbane location.

A Note About Cat Cafes

We know how this might come across, but we want to make sure that if you do plan to go to any other cat cafes in or around Brisbane, that you know the following. We have heard rumours of some new cafes that do not follow the regulations around operating as a cat cafe.

If you do plan to visit other cat cafes, we encourage you to do so thoughtfully. Be cautious about locations where the cats are in the same space as the café or kitchen equipment, as this is against food safety regulations. It is not good for the cats, the customers, and it hurts all the other cat cafes that are following the regulations (us included).

These regulations exist to ensure the well-being of both customers and the animals. Responsible cat cafes, like ours, follow strict guidelines to keep the café and cat lounge areas separate. Your support helps responsible businesses continue to thrive while prioritising the safety and health of everyone involved.

Thank you again for your unwavering support. We hope to see you soon, whether it’s to say goodbye to Annerley or hello at Ipswich.

With gratitude,
The Lucky Cat Cafe Team
